Remembering Dilla

February is both the month of J Dilla’s birth and death, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing plenty of J Dilla tributes and the like over the next few weeks. I’ve been listening to Jaylib and Donuts quite a bit recently, so I decided to go ahead and start things off right with some new music. Mos Def kicked things off last month with the J Dilla tribute concert in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and courtesy of RappersIKnow, I’ve posted a link to an mp3 of the entire performance. At the show, Mos Def, backed by a six piece band, performed a bunch of J Dilla produced songs along with a couple of his own hits. On another note, HipHopDX’s Aliya Ewing has written a very nice article on Dilla, which I would also definitely recommend if you’re a fan. Along with the article, they’ve posted some of Dilla’s most memorable tracks and some quotes from famous friends and collaborators regarding the late producer/rapper. I’ll have more J Dilla posts throughout the course of the month, so keep checking back. You’ll get to see what some of my favorite J Dilla tracks are and maybe you’ll learn of a few new ones.
